BMW diesels will arrive in 2008
After showing off their BlueTec-equipped diesel six-cylinder engine at the Detroit Auto Show, BMW indicated that they would be installing oil-burners in their US offerings in 2008. Yesterday, prior to the opening of the Geneva Motor Show BMW CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer reaffirmed that diesels would be available in US-market BMWs beginning with the X5 and 5-series models. Diesel engines make up about forty percent of BMW's sales worldwide, but are currently unavailable here. He also stated that the mild hybrid system they are jointly developing with DaimlerChrysler would be on sale in about two years time.[Source: Automotive News - subscription required]

YES! Perhaps the near-weekly emails I sent to BMW HQ over the past six years have something to do with it... I hope ;-)

It's going to be very interesting to see how Audi and BMW's TDI sales are affected in the US when they begin selling hybrids as well. All in all it's about damn time [for BMW to begin matriculating their diesel line up over here].

Good because not offering the N54 in the X5 if just fracking stupid. 1000lbs heavier than the X3 and an extra 10 grand.

First company to offer a Diesel-Hybrid that gets about 65MPG is going to make a lot of money.
Too bad it wil not be an American firm - too stupid!

I might dump my Saab 9-5 wagon if there was a BMW 5-series wagon, with diesel and WITHOUT awd. That would be fantastic. Rear wheel drive, fantastic tourque and terrific mileage. Nice.
