With the Baselworld watch show still underway, TAG Heuer released a trio of new driver's watches, including the latest SLR chronograph. Not to be outdone, the sketchers over at Porsche Design used to occasion to take the wraps off their latest timepiece, the P'6750 Worldtimer GMT.
Like any other GMT wristwatch, this one keeps track of two time zones – a handy feature if you're taking your Carrera on a cross-country tour, or want to know what time it is at the other end of your Cayenne. Instead of using a fourth hand like other GMT watches, however, the P'6750 uses an indicator window placed at 9 o'clock on the dial to display the secondary time zone, and another indicator window at 3 o'clock to select the time zone by city.
The unique features are driven by an Eterna ETA Valgranges automatic movement, enclosed in a titanium case in either matt finish or with black PVD coating. The dial can likewise be ordered in either titanium color or in black, featuring decidedly avant-garde numerals and detailing, while the watch fastens to the wrist with a wide black rubber strap.

PRESS RELEASE
Eterna presents Porsche Design Worldtimer P'6750
Eterna presents for the first time the Porsche Design Worldtimer P'6750 at the Watch and Jewellery Show "Baselworld" (April 12-19, 2007). The latest timepiece from Porsche Design displays the time in two different time zones simultaneously. An additional crown with an integrated button makes the world time settings easy to change.
The watch producer Eterna - since 1998 licensee partner of Porsche Design - has designed and built a special movement module in its manufacture based on the ETA Valgranges calibre A 07 111 for the Porsche Design Worldtimer P'6750. The module extends this movement by the addition of an intelligent GMT function. The three hands in the centre of the watch display the time in the time zone in which the wearer currently finds himself. By means of discs rotating behind the dial, the movement additionally displays, via two dial apertures, a reference location and the present time in the corresponding time zone. The second time zone runs in synchrony with the main watch time.
The setting of the reference location can be corrected by means of the crown at the two o´clock position. Transfer of the time at the reference location to the hands is permitted by the button integrated in the crown at two o´clock. While the time zone function of the watch is being adjusted, the automatic movement continues to run without any limitation - not one single second of the original setting is lost when the time zone is changed. Self-explanatory abbreviations are used to designate the reference cities. These three-letter codes are explained by an engraving on the back of the watch case.
The crown at the four o´clock position is used to adjust the minutes and the hour hand in the centre. In addition, this crown can be used to wind the watch. The "Clous de Paris" decoration of the crowns is not provided for aesthetic reasons alone: the decorative structure makes for a better grip on the crown.
The design of the Porsche Design Worldtimer P'6750 is typified by the usual understatement. Simple cylindrical forms shape the watch case which is made of the typical Porsche Design material, titanium. The typography, styling and colours of the dials emphasize the functional character of the watch. In addition to the case in matte titanium, another version in titanium with a black PVD coating is also available. Both versions are fitted with a black caouchouc strap with a latitude and longitude pattern in profile on the inside. This makes for enhanced wearer comfort by allowing air to penetrate between the skin and strap. The folding clasp of the strap is also made of titanium.
Porsche Design is a global luxury men´s brand and is determined by engineered products. Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche established the Porsche Design brand in 1972, whose products are attracting consumers with their technical innovation and represent functionality and timelessness in its purest form. Porsche Design products are sold in exclusive own retail and franchise stores, shop-in-shops, up-market department stores and exclusive specialist stores.

When I read "Porsche Designs a Wristwatch for the World," I thought you meant it was going to be cheap enough for me to afford. Thanks for completely shattering my hopes and dreams, Noah.

This is Porsche Design, F.A. Porsche's company, and has nothing to do with Porsche AG, the car maker (except for the man being Ferry's son and the designer of the first 911).

I have many watches, but now I simply use my mobile phone for the current time. All my watches sit in drawers.

Peter - nice try but you are wrong. Porsche Design is a majority-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG in Stuttgart.

That's a ripoff of a Hamilton design. Nice watch, though.

#5 Wrong is such a harsh word - I'm just a little behind things ;)
It indeed used to be the way I said - Porsche Design has been founded as an independent company when F.A. Porsche had to leave Porsche KG along with his brothers and his cousin Piech. That's the way things were for over 30 years, however it turns out Porsche AG recently bought the majority of Porsche Design. So I stand corrected, Porsche now owns Porsche.

Ha ha Peter...I am just teasing. I did not mean to come off otherwise. I actually knew that was the case before - and got blasted myself (same words I believe) for saying "they are separate companies"!
Now, if only they could begin producing V2 rockets again, the circle would be complete!

pass. Ill stick with my GMT Master. The original world GMT/UTC traveller's watch
Fred @ Apr 17th 2007 3:16PM
With the Daylight Savings mess, it's likely the time for at least one of the cities built into the watch is wrong.
John @ Apr 20th 2007 3:37PM
#1 - I didn't see anywhere what the cost will be - can you share where you found it? I like the looks of it.
Ken @ Apr 20th 2007 6:53PM
Own a Porsche, but I'll skip the Porsche Design watch and stick to my 20 year old Rolex GMT II--timeless design, value and performance. Retails for 3X what I paid for it back then and still ticking!
